Alberto Borea was born in Lima in 1979. He lives and works between New York and Lima.
He received his BA in painting from Corrente Alterna School of Painting and Sculpture.
His works are developed around the difficult and dramatic relationship between cultures and political histories. By balancing the past and the present with an approach that can go from the particular to the general, he weaves life experiences within these spaces. The role of distance in cultural, economic and social events is an important part of the process and execution of his works. Borea creates a personal mapping exercise on various media, around specific locations and specific events: for the artist, the map represents a symbol of identity for individuals, peoples and cultures. All these aspects include the request for an appropriate place justified by a fair and impartial level of democratic principles.
His works has exhibited in solo show at Revolver Galeria, Buenos Aires (2018); Galeria Lucia de la Puente, Peru (2016, 2012, 2008 and 2006); Xavier Fiol Gallery, Spain (2015); Y Gallery, New York (2014 and 2010); Galeria Isabel Hurley, Spain (2013, 2012, 2011). He has participated in a group exhibitions at Museo del Barrio Collection, New York (2017); Museo del Barrio, New York (2016); The 8th Floor, New York (2015); CIFO Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2014); Queens Museum of Art, New York (2013); Traneudstillingen Exhibition Space, Copenhagen (2012); Asya Geiberg Gallery, New York (2011); Mason Gross Galleries, New Jersey (2010); Museo de Huelva, Spain (2009); Red House Gallery, Los Angeles (2008); MAMBA, Buenos Aires (2007). Borea's works are included in the collection of Guggenheim Museum, Museo del Barrio, Madeira Corporate Services Collection, Shelley and Donald Rubin Collection, Hochschild Collection.
Alberto Borea was born in Lima in 1979. He lives and works between New York and Lima. His work is characterized by the continuous displacement and use of diverse media and materials.
This openness towards the media assists him in defining the development of an artistic proposal, where the object's time and history take a fundamental importance within the plastic discourse. For the most part Borea's work concentrates on the difficult and dramatic relationship between cultures and histories; the coexistence of past and present within an approach that can go from the particular to the general and vice versa, he weaves his life experience with those spaces where this experience was developed.
