Giuseppe Stampone was born in Cluses, France in 1974. He is an Italian artist who lives and works between Rome and Bruxelles. From 1997 to 2001 he attended a Master in Contemporary Techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in L'Aquila, Italy. He is currently a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino. He is the founder of Solstizio Project (www.solstizio.org) that collaborates with the European Union and has been developed in different countries around the world.
Stampone's artistic quest represents the synthesis and formalisation of the concept encapsulated by the term Global Education. The work of Giuseppe Stampone is that of an artist-activist in an age of so-called crisis. In a time of rising public vigilance, his art is unabashedly a potent form of political protest. His artistic output ranges from interactive multimedia installations to monumental and participatory public art projects. Simultaneously, his work makes reference to the "reasons for doing" by dwelling on the aesthetic gratification that comes from drawing with a Bic pen.
Stampone's work is a "formal experience". If the form is closed and crystallised, experience of the form creates a discussion on the artist's part within a community from which he requires interaction and participation.
The various mediums adopted serve to intensify the urgency of the circumstances. For Stampone, the artist must return to placing ethical commitment before aesthetics, political activism in the everyday, and an urgent need to construct connective structures and platforms that are cognitive, tactile and transfiguring.
His approach is nuanced and methodical, inviting the public to reflect on fundamental issues like immigration, access to water resources or war.
His work has been exhibited in his recent solo shows including: Saldi d'Artista - La cooperazione attraverso l'arte, Centro Italiano di Documentazione sulla Cooperazione e l'Economia Sociale, Arte Fiera event, Bologna (2017), Europe vs Europe, Marie-Laure Fleisch, Brussels (2016); Stampone - Banerjee and the third meaning, Italian Cultural Institute in New Delhi, New Delhi (2016); L'ABC dell' Arte nei confine sociali del gioco, Palazzo Reale, Milan (2014); Odio gli indifferenti, Istituto Nazionale per la Grafica – Palazzo Poli, Rome (2014); Ritratti – Bic Data Blue, GAMeC – Contemporary Modern Art Gallery Bergamo (2014); Saluti da L'Aquila da Giuseppe Stampone - Special Project, MACRO - Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome, Rome (2011).
